Frank Sawyer's Killer Bug Gallery - An ongoing project
Variety of Killer Bugs
Below are a series of Killer Bugs tied with various vintage and contemporary yarns. Each gets about four passes of wire creating the tapered underbody. The yarn is captured at the bend, brought forward to the eye in tight touching turns and brought back to the bend where it is captured and trimmed. The wire tag is larger than Frank Sawyer would have used, the wire is finer as well. Sawyer would have caught the yarn in at the eye and made three layers. He also used what he called "red wire" which is very close in color to the dark copper uni-wire used in a few of these samples.
